The need for fresh, nutritious fruit and vegetables has been brought to the fore with the UK leaving the EU and the Covid-19 pandemic. Both have highlighted the importance of building sustainable and productive horticultural systems. This month we look at how agreocological practices can support this; focusing on biodiversity, enhancing soil biology, recycling nutrients, and encouraging beneficial insects to help build fertility within soils and growing substrates and pest and disease control.
