Low-input systems can encompass varying approaches including extensive, regenerative, organic and pasture-fed, and practices such as incorporating short-term leys, permanent pasture, and species-rich swards. All can impact positively on water quality, biodiversity, animal health and welfare, and climate change mitigation. We explore some of the practices which also help target the public goods outlined within the terms of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI), helping farmers manage land in a way that improves food production whilst being more environmentally sustainable.
