Dairy herd health and foot trimming at Daylesford - Richard Smith and Paul Clayton
28 February 2020
In this vlog, Richard Smith, Farms Manager at Daylesford Organic, talks about cattle foot trimming in the dairy, stressing the importance of doing it at least once a year. Cows feet becoming sore or lame has a big effect on production and welfare. Cows are cloven hooved; they have two claws that need to work in conjunction with each other. If one overgrows the other it effects their gait - which effects the cows happiness and ability to be really productive. Look out for the frisky happy cow! :-)
Paul Clayton carries out a foot trim of one of the cows, explaining the reasons for what he is doing.
